Tennis BBQ Celebrated "Burgers in Paradise"

Buckeye Grove was filled with music, food and more than 50 tennis aficionados on Saturday evening 18 August. It was the tennis club's Jimmy Buffet themed "Burgers in Paradise" party.

The festive atmosphere was made possible by the efforts of Mary Ann Shields and other club members who gathered parrots, festive tablecloths, parrot lights and other tropical decorations. Byron Kelly worked the blender serving up custom margaritas with a variety of salt rimmed glasses.
Lenny Cook served up perfectly done burgers and special request entrees, staying cool while thinking of the kayak trip along Puget Sound glaciers that he took two weeks ago.

The home-made side dishes of salads, casseroles and desserts brought by the club's excellent chefs were all mouth-watering.

As the evening cooled some players got on the courts for friendly doubles matches. The Tennis Club's Saturday evening BBQ's, following a potluck format, will continue throughout the summer.

Social - Barbecues

RTC Summer Barbecues

Buckeye Barbeque 1200 80

Our social area has been perfect for barbecues. During the summer months, between Memorial Day and Labor Day, club members gather on each Saturday

The club has certified specific members as "grill-meisters" as special knowledge, and good grilling skills are required. This is very informal and a lot of fun.

The BBQ will be fired up around 6:00 pm.

Each person brings

  • Something of their own for the grill,
  • Something for the group to share. Salads, appetizers, and desserts are examples of shared dishes.
  • Drinks are each individual's responsibility
  • Utensils and plates.

Enjoy great food to share and the wonderful company of our tennis friends.

Note: This runs from the first Saturday after the Memorial Day to the Saturday immediately before Labor Day

Social - Golf Outings

Sneakers and Spikes 02Golf Outings

Who says tennis players can't golf?    A rather large group of "players" turn out to prove the naysayers wrong.  Each team of 4 has at least one woman on it and each player has to drive twice.   This best ball format allows everyone participation and contribution.   After a shotgun start, they are off.   Along the course is a longest drive hole, a closest to the pin hole, and of course your typical hazards............geese, errant balls, and noisy players.   The goal is naturally, lowest score.   Results are announced over a catered dinner usually held on the Dollar Clubhouse patio.   Members often elect to bring in a guest, dare we say, ringer, which adds to the fun and competition.
