Rossmoor downs Trilogy in an exciting day of tennis>>>

Saturday, May 16, was windy and cool in the morning. However, the tennis was hot as Rossmoor's inter club team hosted a tough group of players from Trilogy Rio Vista for a spirited tennis battle. When the dust cleared, Rossmoor prevailed with an exciting 15-9 triumph.

At line 1 ladies, Patty Richardson and Sherry Endicott bounced back from a difficult first set to pull even, 1-6, 6-4. Line 2 ladies saw Pauline Hanley and Trudie Anderson played consistent hard ball to win 6-2, 6-2. Irene Wong and Gay White, playing at line 3, played a spirited Trilogy duo to a 6-4, 2-6 final. Lil Kuhl and Pat Hyde were a consistent squad, playing angles and drop shots to a 6-3, 6-4 win.

The mens' line 1 team of brothers in law Frank Haswell and Rob Ingalls dominated the net and easily beat a good team 6-2, 6-3. Randy Kuhl and Larry Barclay, playing line 2, had a long, exciting match, but prevailed 6-2, 6-0. Line 3's Chris Christopher and Ron Wyman played the match of the day. After the dust cleared the Rossmoor duo lost a very exciting encounter 5-7, 4-6. Rounding out the mens' matches at line 4 Larry Fredricks and John Lee were just too steady for their opponents in a 6-1, 6-4 victory.

Becky Reiss' consistent play and Dave Kern's drop shots help them win the line 1 mixed doubles 7-5, 6-1. Line 2 Allan Tam and Jan Battastini battled with a very tough opponent before losing 3-6, 0-6. Line 3 participants Ted Lee and Angie Dometrovich fought hard but had some bad luck while losing 3-6,1-6. Ken Haley and Barbara Blum, playing line 4, ran into a buzz saw of a team and still managed to split sets 2-6, 6-1.

Tournament chairman Randy Kuhl expressed his thanks to the following volunteers: Len Cook and Rob Ingalls for barbecuing a great lunch, Lil Kuhl, Barbara Phillips, Irene Wong, Joe Potozkin and John Lee for help in setting up; Loc Barnes for decorations; Fred Barnes and Dave Kern for bringing up the food and ice; Barbara Blum and Ken Haley for clean up. Sally Nordwall created the name tags and kept the scores.The help of these people really contributed to the success of the day.
