Villages Tournament has come and gone and we can report that >>>

Rossmoor at the Villages --- October 17, 2015

On a cloudy but comfortable day RTC traveled south to San Jose to play the Villages.   We were greeted by excellent breakfast food and juices to help us prepare for the tennis to come.   When the dust cleared, the two sides played to a 12-12 tie.

Starting out in the #1 spot for the Rossmoor contingency, Randy Kuhl and Larry Barclay easily won their match, 6-2, 6-3.   Bernie Wolf and Dave Kern continued the men's success by winning 6-4, 6-2 at the #2 spot.   #3 Chris Christopher and Ron Wyman had an exciting, tough match which ended in a tie.  After trailing 5-1 in the first set, Chris and Ron came back to win 7-6.   After a very tough second set, The Villages duo pulled out a 6-4 victory.   The #4 spot proved to be one of the most exciting matches of the day.   Rossmoor was well represented by Stan Orlik and Allan Tam who fought back after losing the first set 6-3 with an exciting second set 7-6 victory.

The ladies #1 team, represented by Jeane DeKelver and Becky Reiss, rolled to an easy 6-1, 6-1 victory.   #2 ladies Carol Pillsbury and Dee Dunne bounced back from an exciting 6-4 first set loss to pull out an impressive 6-2 win in the second set.   Nelly Sawczuk and Lil Kuhl, playing #3, ran into a very tough team and suffered a 6-2, 6-1 defeat.  #4 Amy Bollinger and Sally Nordwall also played against a very strong team losing 6-1, 6-1.

Bob and Rena Benz, playing at #1 mixed doubles, won a very tough match, 6-4, 6-4.   #2 Rob Ingalls and Barbara Blum encountered a team with laser beam serves but still put up a very good fight before losing 6-3, 6-3.   John Lee and Barbara Phillips had an exciting time in a very competitive #3 match.   Despite not coming out on top, the Rossmoor pair lost by a very respectable 6-3, 6-4.   At #4 there was one more very close match left to play.   Fred and Loc Barnes of Rossmoor earned a tie with a well-played 6-3, 3-6 result.

When the matches were completed, everyone enjoyed home made chili, salad and dessert at the club house.   As usual, both sides had a lot of fun and camaraderie.

Rossmoor gets to keep the championship plaque since we won the last match.   Thank you to Dave Kern who helped organize the event in conjunction with our opponents.   Good job, Dave! The Villages will be here again on April 16, 2016.   Mark your calendars!
