With the opening of the New and Improved Buckeye Tennis Complex, RTC was given access to the new propane barbeque.   The home leg of our annual tournament against the Villages was scheduled to be the "maiden voyage" of the BBQ, but it was felt that a "shakedown cruise" was in order, to make sure everything was in working order before our visitors arrived.

Buckeye Barbeque 700 90 RTC was given initial responsibility for the BBQ, and was charged with providing the propane, maintaining the cleanliness of the grill, and setting safety standards.   In response, the RTC board put together some preliminary guidelines, temporarily restricting personal use of the BBQ, and limiting use of the BBQ to official RTC functions.   The guidelines also required that the grill be used only by a group of trained Grillmeisters.   Therefore, the "shakedown cruise" was used as a training session for the initial group of Grillmeisters.   There have subsequently been several other Grillmeister training sessions when other members have expressed an interest.

As more people became aware of the presence of the BBQ, there were more and more requests for personal use of the BBQ.   A more formalized set of guidelines for the social area and BBQ were put together and presented to the GRF Policy Committee, but a number of revisions were advised, including a recommendation for transfer of responsibility for use of the area to the Recreation Department, in order to make the area available to all Rossmoor residents on a reservations basis.   The language of the new Rule 106.1 is still in committee, and is yet to be presented to the GRF Board for approval.   So for now, use of the social area is open to all Rossmoor residents, but the BBQ is to be used only by trained Grillmeisters for scheduled RTC functions until approval and implementation of the above changes.
